ARAM Society for Syro-Mesopotamian Studies is organising a series of conferences on Transmission and Innovation: Scientific and technological thought in the Syro-Mesopotamian area and the Arabian Peninsula (3000 BC - 2000 AD), and its Twentieth International Conference will study the theme of Alcohol & Oils, to be held at the University of Oxford on 15-17 July 2002. The theme will include many disciplines, such as the brewing art, medicine, physics, chemistry, history, archaeology, poetry, philosophy, cosmology, religion and astrology. ARAM Society for Syro-Mesopotamian Studies is organising its Twenty Second International Conference on the theme of Palestinian Christianity, to be held at the Oriental Institute (University of Oxford) on 6-8 July 2004. Although the conference aims to study Palestinian Christianity from the eleventh century until the eighteenth century, proposals of papers on other subjects, which are related to the main theme of the conference, will also be welcome. The Conference will start on Sunday noon 3 July with the Mandaean baptism at the Thames river of Oxford.A special exhibition of Mandaean culture will be part of the conference. The Conference aims to create a unique meeting of scholars from around the world with special interests in the Gnostic movements of the Near East during the first millenium A.D., especially the Manichaeans and those who were considered as Zindiq (Zanadiqah) in the early Islamic and Arabic literatures.
