This is the README file for GAS2.0 Primary distribution is via WWW page http://info.ox.ac.uk/~ayoung/gas.html Please follow the instructions below for retrieving and unpacking the manuals, program and example files for the GAS2.0 package. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are two manuals for GAS, which should be retrieved and saved as Ascii format files. These are in Postscript format and should be listed on a Postscript compabible laserprinter. You will require both manuals to make full use of GAS. gman20g.ps gman20a.ps -------------------------------------------------------------------------- For DOS systems you require (retrieve as a Binary Image) the single file: gas20dos.exe Once this is installed, type `gas20dos' and it will unpack to produce the program and example files. Note that the files 32RTM.EXE and DPMI32VM.OVL must be in the DOS path to run GAS, and that the Windows directory must also be in this path. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are several versions available for Unix systems: gas20_aix.tar.Z IBM AIX gas20_alpha.tar.Z DEC Alpha OSF gas20_sgi.tar.Z Silicon Graphics IRIX gas20_sunos.tar.Z SunOS gas20_sunsolaris.tar.Z Sun Solaris gas20_ultrix.tar.Z DEC Ultrix plus the compressed example file: gas20_examples.tar.Z Once you've retrieved the example file and the appropriate program file (as Binary Images), you can uncompress them with the command: zcat filename | tar -xvf - where `filename' are the names of the *.tar.Z files (one at a time). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The VMS files are not compressed (retrieve them as Binary Images) and can be run directly after renaming them to gas.exe: gas20_vax.exe DEC Vax gas20_alpha.exe DEC Alpha To run from the command line, make a definition gas :== $Dgas.exe where `D' is the full disk and directory specification in which the gas.exe file is located. You should retrieve either the DOS or Unix examples to use with the manual (the contents are identical). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any problems, email ayoung@vax.ox.ac.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------------
