[door] About Bacchus

Vines Welcome to Oxford University Wine Society, one of the largest, most sociable and successful University societies. Our mission is simply to promote the discovery and enjoyment of wine. Through weekly tastings, themed dinners and regular beginners' classes we offer members an exceptional opportunity to learn from famous wine makers and visiting experts, all whilst enjoying some excellent wines. From supermarket own-brands to Grand Cru Classé we aim to cater for - and educate - all our members, whatever their level of interest.

Legendary Austrian winemaker Alois Kracher addresses the Society in
the New Rooms at Magdalen College. Every term we host a formidable range of wine makers, writers and merchants from around the world who are keen to promote themselves to a future generation of wine consumers whilst furthering our educational aims. Learning just a little about the wine in your glass greatly adds to your enjoyment and the Society works hard to recruit complete beginners as well as established wine enthusiasts. No prior knowledge is ever assumed as we aim to teach members all they need to develop their love of wine.

Faithful to our student origins, membership is offered at a student-friendly price and brings with it many unique discounts and special offers. All of this is offered in the beautiful and relaxed surroundings of some of Oxford's most renowned colleges. Recently we have enjoyed tastings at Corpus Christi, Queen's, Magdalen, Merton, St. Peter's, Trinity and University College as well as the Oxford Union.

If you are interested in joining the Society, please follow the link to our Members page. Do take time to look round the website and make use of the educational material written by the Committee on the Information page.
