Welcome to the O.U. Brazilian Society
This is the introductory message for freshers sent
in October 2010.
Hi all!
This message is mainly for the
new members of the O.U. Brazilian Society, but it may be relevant for
the current members as well.
First of all, thank you very
much for your interest on our society, the OUBS has 132 members from all
backgrounds.
Our mailing list is closed, so
only members of the list can post messages, but there is no moderation,
which means that you are all free to email everybody, but please, let's
stick with matters that are related to Brazil or to social events that
could improve the interaction within this society! Though we are also
open to messages that can benefit our members, such as people trying to
sell house-holding stuff when they are moving out, or so on.
The official language of this
list used to be Portuguese, but now that there are many non-Portuguese
speakers in the list, we will try to keep it bilingual for a while. By
the way, some of our members are Portuguese teachers, you can give a
shout if you'd like to contact them.
Have a look at our website in
order to find out more about our society: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~brazil/. There is
a link to the Capoeira group and to other related stuff. For the
Brazilians, we advise you to become a member of the ABEP and to have a
look at their website: http://www.abep.org.uk/. ABEP's site has a lot of
very useful information, specially for freshers (check their "Manual da
Ilha", available from the download web page). If you'd like to ask
anything to the directors of this society, please, email
brazil@herald.ox.ac.uk. If you'd like to send something to everybody,
this is the address of the list: oubs@maillist.ox.ac.uk. If you think it
was a mistake to subscribe, or if you want to stop receiving messages
from us at any time, just send an empty message to
oubs-unsubscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk.
We would like to inform that
members of the OUBS automatically become members of the mailing list of
the Centre for Brazilian Studies (http://www.brazil.ox.ac.uk/). If you
don't want to receive bulletins from them Centre, please get in touch
with sabrina.souza@brazilian-studies.oxford.ac.uk
Well, I think that's all for
now.
Remember: our ordinary meeting
is at the Lamb and the Flag, every Thursday evening, from 8.30. We are
planning to gather there and move to Que Passa later, for the Brazilian
Night.
Have a great time!
