The Oxford 2 London Row

Bank Holiday Weekend Aug 2009

Over August bank holiday weekend, 29th-31st, 9 of us will be rowing from Oxford to London to raise money for Charity.

Our crew consists of 8 oarsmen Nikolay Aleksandrov, Jonathan Storey, Kiril Kossev, Frank Sobott, Tom Karkinsky, Ken Au, Matthew Harris and Pete Sullivan, and our cox Rahul Raghuram. The distance from Oxford to Central London is around 110 miles along the River Thames. It will take 3 days to complete, stopping overnight in Henley-on-Thames and Staines.

We will be raising money for ZOV UK. ZOV is a charity which helps some of the most disadvantaged children in Bulgaria - those who live in orphanages and other similar institutions. Most of these children live in very basic conditions provided by orphanages and they receive very little care and support.  As they grow up they often struggle to find direction and focus in their lives. ZOV works on projects to improve the children's everyday lives, such as providing supplemental equipment such as learning materials and clothes.  In addition, ZOV organizes projects that provide education, guidance and emotional support these children so desperately need. See http://www.zovuk.org.uk/ for more info on ZOV.
