Descartes CD-ROM

Description: The Descartes CD-ROM has been written and produced by a group of French philosophy academics, with the intention of providing an accessible introduction to the philosopher's life and works. The resource gives a detailed appraisal of the life, philosophical thought and works of Descartes, including full text of his major works (in French), and important correspondence. Texts include L'Homme, Le Monde ou Traité de la Lumière, Le Discours de la Méthode, Les Méditations, La Dioptrique, Les Règles pour la direction de l'esprit, Les Principes de la Philosophie, Les Passions de l'âme, and Lettres Choisies. There are also extracts from Baillet's biography of Descartes and a useful dictionary of Cartesian terminology. The package has a multimedia interface and contains accessible aural and graphical presentations of major events which occurred during Descartes' life, and animations linked to extracts from his works. The content is presented entirely in French.

Requirements: PC running Windows 3.1 or above with at least 16 MB RAM and a CD-ROM drive, or Apple Macintosh running System 7.0 or above with at least 16 MB RAM and a CD-ROM drive.
