Description: The Poetry Shell enables the creation of a teaching edition of a short text with the minimum of technical knowledge and in a relatively short time. The Poetry Shell works best with a short text (no longer than 100 lines) with fixed line breaks (e.g. poetry) and in a language other than the students' own. Hypertext links frm each word in the text can be linked to a glossary, grammatical commentary, and further notes. Translations, comparative texts, images, bibliography, and topics can be easily fitted into the Shell. A notes function enables students to save short notes to disk. The primary text and associated files are stored as ASCII files and their location specified in the configuration screen. The Poetry Shell can make use of any single Windows font including, for example, Greek. The Dream of the Rood, an Old English poem, is an example edition built using The Poetry Shell. Images are scanned or converted to the Windows bitmap format (BMP) and can be displayed alongside textual commentary.
Requirements: PC running Windows 3.1+ with at least 4MB RAM and 3 MB free hard disk space. Images require a 256 colour display.
