Virtual Seminars for Teaching Literature

Description: The Virtual Seminars for Teaching Literature is a JISC Technology Applications Programme (JTAP) funded project. The ultimate aim of the project is to examine how effectively modern communications technology can be used to deliver and access remote educational resources. The Virtual Seminars Project intends to fulfil this aim by creating, implementing, and evaluating four tutorials on First World War poetry together with an archive of primary source material, much of it digitized from the Wilfred Owen archive at Oxford University.

The four tutorials consist of 1) An Introduction to World War I Poetry; 2) Issac Rosenberg's 'Break of Day in the Trenches'; 3) An Introduction to Manuscript Study and the Creation of a Critical Edition (examining Wilfred Owen's 'Dulce et Decorum est'); and 4) An Introduction to Text Analysis (using TACTWeb with the poems of Wilfred Owen). The digital archive will comprise full colour images of all the pages of the extant Owen manuscripts from his war period; a selection of other textual material and photographs; and digitized film and video footage relating to the battle sites and life on the Front.

Requirements: Internetworked computer with graphical World Wide Web browser.

Further information: See Lee (1996, 1997).

Distributor: All four tutorials, together with various reports, are delivered across the Internet using the World Wide Web at http://info.ox.ac.uk/jtap/

Price: Freely available for non-commercial use.

Version available at CTI Centre: Current.
