Symyx Technologies are delighted to be able to offer the possibility of a placement for a talented student from Professor O’Hare’s research group. This full time position is offered for up to a 6 month period. This position is intended to form part of the Oxford Part II year. We encourage highly motivated and skilled chemistry students to apply. Previous expertise in a research/development laboratory environment or equivalent practical experience is desirable but not essential. Familiarity with inorganic/organic synthesis and analytical tools are all very desirable. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a team are essential. Start dates will be determined in consultation with the student, Symyx and Professor O’Hare. Symyx will apply for a J-1 visa.

Symyx Technologies is a fast growing HiTech company located in the heart of Silicon Valley, California, 30 miles south of San Francisco. Symyx is pioneering the field of combinatorial materials science, which develops and applies combinatorial methodologies and high throughput screening to the discovery and improvement of materials for the electronic and chemical industries. Symyx is merging miniaturization, automation, and parallel processing technologies with chemistry to generate and evaluate diverse libraries of 100 to 100,000 different materials. The Research and Development group is led by Prof. Henry Weinberg and consists of over 75 world class scientists, catalytic and synthetic chemists, engineers and lab assistants. Our core technologies include heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, polymer synthesis, and engineering. We have applied these capabilities to discover new materials for such important applications as polyolefins, commodity chemicals, fuel cells, specialty polymers, battery materials, and phosphors.
