SELF Research Centre Instruments

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it cost anything to use the instruments and attached information?

No, there are absolutely no costs associated with accessing and using the instrument
packages (including the instrument) from this online source. These instrument packages
are provided freely as a contribution to the research community.

What are the conditions of use of the SELF Research Centre instruments?

These can be found under the general Terms and Conditions link, and you must agree
to the terms and conditions of use before you will be granted authorisation and access to
use any of these instruments.

What is included in the instrument packages?

When you register as a user of one of the SELF Research Centre instruments, you will be
granted access to that instrument. In addition, you will receive other useful information,
such as an outline of the development of the instrument, the factors that constitute the
instrument, the suggested variable names for data entry, and some key references to this
instrument.

How do I use the instrument that I'm interested in?

There are instructions listed on the instrument regarding its use and administration. These
instructions are the requirements of the SELF Research Centre, but individual researchers
may have additional requirements for their administration.

What is the liability policy regarding the use of any of these instruments?

The liability policy can be found under the general Terms and Conditions link, and you must
agree to this policy, along with the terms and conditions of use before you will be granted
authorisation and access to use any of these instruments.

How do I know what factors constitute the instrument I'm interested in?

There is a break-down of this information for each of our instruments, and there is also a
document included in your instrument package that specifies the factors.

Can the SELF Research Centre provide help or advice with regards to the entry
of my data?

The document titled variables and scoring is the only information specified by the SELF
Research Centre with regards to coding of variables. Other aspects of the data entry may be
tailored to the individual researcher's needs. The SELF Research Centre does not provide
data entry services, as these can be readily provided by people whose employment
incorporates data entry.

Can I receive statistical advice and support from the SELF Research Centre
regarding my analyses of the data?

The SELF Research Centre does not provide statistical advice or support to users of these
instruments. It is expected that researchers either already have this background, or have
associates who do.

How might I find further information, which is not included in my package?
