Here you will find some discussion of  over lapping themes I am working on at the moment..... ..........I would be interested to hear from anyone working the same fields.

....(a) The Modern Conservative Party

John Francis and I organised a panel and gave  a paper at the American Political Science Association in Chicago in August 2013 .We are now preparing a book of essays on modernizing Conservatism. In 20012 I had two essays on conservative politics publishe din Mark McNaught (ed)Reflections on Conservative Politics in the United Kingdom and the United States. (Lexington 2012) One of the essays looks at the role of religion in Conservative politics in the UK and the other (written with Nigel Allington) looks at Conservative economic policy since Thatcher.

(b) Regulating Standards and Eliminating Corruption in British Public Life (with David Hine)

David and I have been working on a book length manuscript which is nearing completion on integrity issues in British public life.

(c) Leadership especially in relation to the Conservative Party

A chapter on bad leadership and its impact on governance has been published in Ludger Helms (ed) Poor Leadership and Bad Governance :Reassessing Presidents and Prime Ministers in North America, Europe and Japan ((Edward Elgar, 2012)

(d) Conservatism in Cross-National Perspective

Joel Aberbach and I  published a collection of essays in 2011 under the title Crisis of Conservatism? The Republican Party, The Conservative Movement and American Politics After Bush. (OUP, 2011)

 (e) The Changing Role of  British Legislators

I am working with Nigel Allington on the changing roles of  MPs. Our study looks at such factors as their allocation of  time and the way they communicate with constituents. We have also written an article on how MPs used their web sites and other forms of ICT in the  controversy over expenses. (See Parliamentary Affairs Vol 63.3 July 2010)

(f)  Developments in American Politics

There is a new seventh volume  of Developments in American Politics  edited by me in conjunction with Christopher Bailey, Bruce Cain and B Guy Peters. It  has just (January 2014) been published by Palgrave.
