Quick CV: Undergraduate at Magdalene College Cambridge UK, Ph D with Ian Fleming at Cambridge on heterocyclic analogues of benzyne. MRC Post doctoral fellow at Oxford with Jeremy Knowles and Rodney Porter [Nobel prize winner] on the Photoaffinity Labeling of Antibodies by Azides. Post doctoral work with E J Corey [Nobel prize winner] at Harvard on prostaglandin synthesis and chromium(VI) oxidation. At Oxford since.

 

Research Interests: Our interests are in a wide range of aspects of carbohydrates including hydroxylated alkaloids, nucleosides, green amino acid synthesis, new biopolymers, Peptidomimetics. Bioactive sugar mimics as potential agents for the treatment of HIV, cancer, cystic fibrosis, hepatitis B and C; novel immunostimulatory materials.  A green approach to the biotechnological and chemical synthesis of new carbohydrates

 

Nutraceuticals are likely to benefit the human race as novel chemotherapeutic agents  and alternative food stuffs; this is one of our major projects. We are also interested in green environmentally friendly syntheses of nucleosides – the most successful compounds for keeping humans who have cancer AIDS and nasty viral diseases alive with a reasonable life style.

A reliable assessment of published work for chemists is the Hirsch-index.  The group h-index is 56; we have an h index of 38 since 1995 and of 26 since 2000.
