You need to join the British Kendo Association (BKA) to practice Kendo (and Iaido and Jodo) in this country for insurance purposes. For the first term at Oxford, the Club insurance will cover you as the BKA membership works on a normal calendar year rather than an academic one.
You will need a BKA membership to take part in BKA organised competitions and grading as well.
The national squad
If you are a British citizen, you are eligible to become a member of the national squad. See the BKA website for detail on how to apply.
Major competitions and gradings
The Club committee will be organising the competitions, but individuals need to apply for gradings. For most gradings, you will need to apply at least 2 months in advance.
