Claire Dancer

• was born in Cardiff and raised in Barry, South Wales
• attended Howell's School Llandaff GDST
• went to Pembroke College, University of Cambridge to study Natural Sciences specialising in Materials Science and Metallurgy
• did a DPhil in Materials Science at Linacre College, University of Oxford
• and is now a postdoctoral research assistant in the group of Prof. Patrick Grant FREng at the Department of Materials, University of Oxford.

Research interests

• I make materials, mostly composites, and test them for particular purposes.
• Along the way I work with modellers to predict the properties of what I make, and with experts in testing to develop new testing methods.
• I currently work on manufacturing metamaterials as part of the QUEST project funded by EPSRC.

Previously I worked on

• the supercondusting material magnesium diboride
• ceramic armour
• functionally graded materials
• the effect of residual stress on ceramic material properties
