The goal of this workshop is to investigate effective ways of training Arts and Humanities Researchers in advanced encoding techniques, with a view to identification of both appropriate training methodologies and suitable teaching resources for tailored courses about the TEI.
Four strands will run through the three day event:
The first of these will be provided by a number of invited guest speakers, invited specifically to discuss their own methodologies and to share their expertise. In the second, we will aim to provide all participants with a good knowledge of the full range of the TEI recommendations and of ways of customizing them for particular applications. In the third, we will present a selection of key supporting technologies and software based on them which is able to exploit TEI encoded materials for scholarly useful purposes. Finally, in the fourth strand, participants will work in groups to design relevant course material and curricula, by selecting from the materials presented, identifying potential learning objects, and discussing the learning outcomes and objectives of their respective research communities.
For the practical sessions, we will divide into 5-6 groups with a tutor to develop detailed lesson plans for a variety of TEI training events:
For each of these, a group of participants will be expected to create course outlines, prerequisites, learning outcomes, and catalogues of supporting materials (slide sets, printed documentation, web resources, sample texts, exercises, assessments etc).
