About me

My research is situated in the interdisciplinary field of music psychology; the intersection of musicology and experimental psychology. I currently hold a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in Music Perception and Cognition at the University of Oxford, and a Junior Research Fellowship at St Hilda's College. I received my doctorate in 2012 from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, where I worked at the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Interdisciplinary Music Research.

Research interests

My current (2012-2014) research project, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, investigates cross-modal interactions in the perception of musical performance. In other words, the project aims to explore how visual and auditory cues interact in the perception of expressivity and emotions in musical performances. Collaborators in this project include Professor Eric Clarke (Faculty of Music, University of Oxford), Professor Charles Spence (Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford), and Dr. Marc Thompson (Department of Music, University of Jyväskylä). My other, enduring research interests include music and emotions - especially the psychological mechanisms underlying music-induced emotions and the role of individual differences - and music and empathy.
