The fund
awards travel bursaries to students who are studying biological sciences at
Oxford University to enable them to pursue their studies outside Oxford.
Mike Soper, OBE, agriculturalist, was born on September 30, 1913. He died on October 26, 2008.
Mike joined the Department of Agriculture at Oxford in 1946 and played an
important role in organising the purchase of the University Farm at Wytham. He
was a very popular lecturer and a fellow of Christ Church. He was also the
organising secretary of the now world-famous Oxford Farming Conference. The
bursary fund was set up by friends and former pupils, on Mike's retirement
from his lectureship in agriculture at Oxford University in 1981.
In allocating grants from this fund, preference will be given to:
| Those whose studies relate to agriculture, forestry or some other use of rural land; | |
| Undergraduates (although graduate students may also be considered); | |
| Those undertaking individual studies (although applications from students taking part in organised expeditions are also welcome). |
The fund awards bursaries to assist students or young research workers within the University to attend conferences or broaden their professional experience, with consequent benefit to British agriculture.
