After completing my BSc, with final year modules in Plant Sciences, Genetics, and Biochemistry, I looked to develop research experience which would connect these themes. This led to a Masters by research under the supervision of Professor Gary Foster and Dr Andy Bailey at the Bristol University Molecular Plant Pathology group, with a research focus on the viral diseases of the major staple food crop Cassava. Using a range of proteomic and molecular biology techniques we were able to characterise the activity of the the unique Ham1 protein in Cassava brown streak virus and investigate its role in infection. As of 2018 I am a doctoral student at Oriel College, University of Oxford, funded by the BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership.
