Committee 2005/2006

President martine bomb at magd oxford
Martine Bomb
photo Despite our reservations about boaties, Martine proved that knowing how to handle yourself on the water can be a distinct advantage when, during torrential rain at the 2005 varsity match, she pulled out three star performances and racked up stacks of points for the women's blues team. On the back of a fantastic season, this former lightweight rower, and now double blue, will be following her rigorous weekly training schedule, including circuits, 200m and 300m reps (watch out Toleme), weights, and of course the occasional recreational glass of wine!

Katie Sam
photo Having completed a successful year as women's captain which helped to improve the resurgence of OUAC's women's team, this talented 400m runner and biochemist extraordinaire has turned her attentions to the smooth running of the club for the coming year. Inbetween booking minibuses and writing witty articles for the award winning Tabthumping Times, Katie will continue her gruelling 400m training sessions to knock another 3 seconds off her pb and secure herself a spot in the infamous ladies naked relay team.

Vice Captain (Women) elizabeth brathwaite at mansfield oxford
Lizi Brathwaite
photo As a member of the prestigious, out-of-varsity, lady's 4x1 team and as one of the partnership which is the OUAC social team, Lizi has fashioned a role as a very sought after lady in the club. Her enthusiasm for "getting pissed" should not be underestimated and there is no doubt that she will provide many a drink and many a party over the coming year! She has been known to arrive at the minibus straight from a night on the town, but away from the bar, Lizi has proved to be a very valuable member of the women's blues team. Having got her first year under her belt, there are certainly big things to come both in the 400m and the 800m next year. No doubt she will be aiming for blues standards, yet it must be presumed that a main goal for her will be retention of her spot on the aforementioned 4x1 team. How to prioritise is a decision down to Lizi, however, I'm sure she will gain great success in whatever she goes for!

Sponsorship peter harding at queens oxford
Pete Harding
photo Being a talented athlete and a twin can earn you millions in lucrative sponsorship deals, given the right marketing. So when Pete decided to take on the mantle of sponsorship rep, OUAC eagerly awaited the new Nike Climalite tracksuits. Sure enough, the offers came flooding in and Nike were prepared to offer a fantastic deal for everyone. Pete was keen to fulfil his duties and signed his life away for the good of the club, but Dave felt that the contractual activities Nike were suggesting to outdo Adidas and the Olson twins was "one step too far" and so the deal fell through. I'm sure that Pete can overcome the morals of his brother and persuade him to do the photoshoots for "Track Boys Gone Bad" before the end

Party Boy ben moreau at wadh oxford
Ben Moreau
photo Ben has been at Oxford since 2000, and from day one it was obvious that the club had gained a committed and extremely talented athlete. He ran for the cross-country Blues from year one, and was a vital member of the BUSA team which won the silver medal in 2001. He became Club Captain in his second year where he achieved a mighty 7-1 win over Cambridge in the Varsity Matches, and repeated the feet in 2004/5 when he stepped in at the last minute to take on the Men's captaincy role. Already a multiple Blue over the country, this year Ben smashed pb's left, right and central and stormed around Crystal Palace to achieve the 5,000m Blue's time by a sizeable margin. He is extremely dedicated to everything Oxford, and one of the most committed athletes the club has.

Party Girl danielle fidge at seh oxford
Danielle Fidge
photo Danielle joined OUAC last year and immediately launched a successful year of tab shoeing in the high jump. After winning the Freshers Cuppers by 40cm, such was the fear she sent down the filthies' spines that they managed to get the high jump cancelled in the FVM, rather than be completely out-jumped by someone who treated the Cuppers match as her once termly training session. Danielle promptly disappeared again, reappearing later to jump in FEAR and to come second in the Varsity Match for the Blues. While she puts her lack of training down to not wanting to have to climb the 6 flights of stairs to her room more than once in a day, her appointment to the committee as one of the press barons is sure to mean that next year she'll not only be ready for more tabthumping, but will also enjoy writing in newspapers about how she and Ailsa keep on beating the tab "women's" captain. When questioned about her training in the build-up to Varsity, she revealed her secret to success is in only downing shots of vodka between the bottles of VK. She has now succeeded in spending so much time in Park End that she is being charged rent.

Press Secretary laura kyte at trinity oxford
Laura Kyte
photo Laura arrived in Oxford ready to take on anything and anybody... only to break her arm in the first week of term and miss most of the cross country season. Returning to fitness in time for the summer meant a varsity debut in the 5000m, where, not content with winning the seconds race, she proved her form by finishing between the two Cambridge blues runners.
Although malicious rumours suggest Laura was elected unanimously because her position was unopposed, the truth is simply that nobody would be able to proclaim OUAC's greatness to the outside world quite as efficiently. Spending most of her time deciphering foreign languages means she will have no trouble understanding crackly PA systems; whilst her dedication is such that when the post-match party finishes, Laura will slip away to write the match report rather than watch the naked relays.

Stato stephen granger-bevan at oriel oxford
Stephen Granger-Bevan
photo SGB's emotive speech at the 2005 AGM meeting is one that is unforgettable, forever immortalised in OUAC history : "I love Stats". Clearly a man of many numbers and few words, this was enough to convince us all that he was the man for the job. Stephen is a long distance specialist with a particular affinity for mud, which always makes the track fairies shudder. However, he has proved that he is also made for the track, gaining Varsity selection and running a strong race, undeterred by the land of minty green. This was no doubt helped by the cross-country style weather conditions- rain, wind, rain, cloud, rain, cold - and did I mention rain?

Field Events Rep (throws) david harding at hertford oxford
Dave Harding
photo A stalwart of the Blue's team, Dave's competed in more Varsities than you've had hot dinners. Ever since entering the all-time top ten in his debut season, Dave's been one of the first names to be pencilled into every OUAC blue's team. The bigger of the Harding twins, Dave can be recognised by his moronish grin and particular sense of humour that brightens up many socials and training sessions. Always fun to have around, Dave doubles as an oracle of OUAC history, procedures and advice, and it is this mix of fun and experience that makes him an invaluable committee member. Training hard with a throws squad around him, this season looks set to produce some giant distances for our javelin supremo. Even the sprinters are fearing for their place the summer; his large frame has been sighted grunting down the track at lightning speed. 2006 surely will be a season to remember, something we hope he will manage after the season's celebrations.

Field Events Rep (jumps) iain mcneill at stcatz oxford
Iain McNeill
photo Cherwell's 'fit jock' returns to the committee this year as jumps rep. His talent is probably better displayed here than in Cherwell (he was robbed!) ... Ian has had an impressive year, smashing his pole vault pb on numerous occasions to end the season comfortably clearing 4m. His first time over such heady heights was in America against Harvard and Yale- a demonstration of how performance can be improved by intense training. Whilst there, he trained hard and played hard, as a certain Cambridge lady can testify! Although preferring to spend the winter with a ball in his hands rather than a pole, Ian will undoubtedly still be down at the track in his inconceivably tight Cornell vest, ready to train and talk about jumps. If he keeps up the superb organisation he showed as organiser of his Cuppers team, this should be a fun and problem-free year for Oxford's jumpers.

Webmaster tino kluge at st-hughs oxon org
Tino Kluge
photo A relatively new member of OUAC, Tino joined the club in February 2004 after making his debut in cuppers. He has always enjoyed athletics but has never been a member of an athletics club, so what better way to kick start an athletics career than to join OUAC! Despite suffering from shin splints, Tino is a regular attender of the best circuit sessions in the world and promises to train hard for the short sprints once the injuries are behind him. Tino is currently in his second year doing a DPhil in Maths. He also has a very good knowledge of computing, so maintaining and improving the OUAC website will be like finger painting for this webmaster. Maybe he can even devote a small section in the website for some quality tab bashing games.
