The ancient Egyptians considered the smooth, hairless bodily form to be the
standard of true beauty; luckily Steve is not Egyptian. Blessed with both a
luxuriant furry coat and Samsonesque power in the discus circle, Steve is the
very model of the modern athletic specimen. He spend his time in equal measures
at Iffley Road, sometimes searching for the perfect throw, sometimes refuelling
with the vast array of panninis and pastries to be found in CafeSub4. This
balanced training schedule seems to be paying dividends as Steve strives to
recover the glories of his youth; beating the Tabs seems to be just another step
along the way. And although he wilfully engages in Warhammer, Steve was still
elected OUAC president. Says a lot about the man, really.

Frances arrived at OUAC in 2005, where in winning four events at freshers’ varsity she showed great promise
as a tab basher extraordinaire. A willingness to join in the naked relays in Portugal confirmed that she was
an OUAC legend in the making. Despite a somewhat worrying soft spot for her minty green foes, Fran still pulled
out a huge 5.76m long jump at Varsity as she racked up stacks of points for the women’s team, becoming a double
blue in the process. Although the summer saw her sadly abandon her “top ten” challenge, as a former German
National junior team member she is no stranger to training hard, and will be spending the winter having lots of
extra coaching to ensure that she is in tip top shape to lead the women’s team to victory in the 2007 Varsity Match.

After the people on the Crunchy Nut advert had to sack their American GI-hero
who was eating cereal instead of Just Getting Out Of The Shower("you can set
your watch by him!") they turned to Sally instead. One of our dark (well,
tanned) horses who trains extra out of hours arrived beautifully on the scene a
good couple of years ago now and has been wonderful ever since, smashing PBs
like noones business. Currently the brains behind the operation, this season is
set to run like clockwork, as every event is seen in the Sally-Dar; and when
things to awry beware of the Sally-glare!

Having kicked rowing to the kerb without the need for rehab, our world-
travelling, super-tourist adventurer/explorer/soon to be action figure John
(“back in ‘Nam”) Buckler saw PBs get demolished in a year that was most notable
for great improvements in the jumps; in true competition style he set both PBs
at Varsity. Despite being plagued by a series of niggles on the day, John still
put in a Captain’s performance to lift the trophy for the men’s blues. En route
to a medical qualification, John’s dissertation currently involves hitting the
knees of sprinters in an attempt to make them run faster, a practice which
elucidates the internal neural wiring of the body. Once that is achieved, it is
only a simple matter with a corkscrew, some cling-film and a spoon to re-
programme the muscle twitch; so do not be surprised when Cyborg John terminates
all opposition before him come the new season.

A dual Varsity 400m runner, the 'Sweet Talker' has established himself as a usual suspect in any Oxford
Blues line-up. Hampered by injury in previous seasons he is yet to meet his potential as a short-middle
distance athlete. When watching the 'Sweet Talker's" shady operation at the track it is easy to see how
he has eased himself into the position of men's vice captain this year. He spends as much time sitting on a fence and walking
the diplomatic tightrope as he does "sweet-talking" his way into the heart of any innocent female bystander.
However rest assured that when he finally does hit the track he is one of the gutsiest you you will meet at
OUAC - so much so that he regulary displays his guts to all those observing...both the inside (not scared of
a post-session barf) and the outside (always jumping at any opportunity to get his shirt off.
BUT...don't be fooled by his trustworthy and composed exterior persona...you are just as likely to find him him
running reliably 15 minutes late as you are to find him in a dribbling mess on Friday night after a couple too
many bevies.

| Natalie McManus |
|
Currently the most effective cure to monotony known to mankind, Nat manages to
combine enthusiasm, smiling, confidence, love for people around and a trippy
eccentricity into a monologue that substitues for training radio. Turning up last year on OUAC’s doormat, Natalie’s searing speed quickly earnt her place on the team, and
was a great asset- particularly for the v. successful sprint relays. She is easily recognised down the track
by her dedication, commitment and photo. Sure to make an inspirational Women’s Vice, those who can
keep up with her will never want for space on the track ahead (echos of “TRACK!” have been reportedly
causing confusion down at the distant Horsepath track…) Her talents, however, do not stop at athletics.
Last year Nat combined sprint training with the disclipined task of adding belts to her wardrobe. She has
since seen the light, having finally realised Martial Arts are simply too pacifist when it comes to Tab-
thumping. The time saved will now be funnelled into shoeing and spreading OUAC-style enlightenment to
the masses...

Mark Ponsford: noun: Ponsy, The Ponse, The meep meep sprinter who the Minty-Green Coyote can never catch…Mark has had a successful tab bashing year culminating in the Varsity match on the track, and off it has got a pretty good reputation too. As the new alumni liaison guy, this brown eyed beauty’s ability to swoon, seduce and write kick ass letters mean that his talent for begging for sponsorship this year is going to be most interesting to watch, and might even be as successful as his 100 metre debut…He’ll sneak up on you like a shadow, pip you at the post and then make you give him money, what more could you ask for?

Former swimmer extraordinaire GSOH seeks fresh challenge. Thus it came to be
that have the pleasure (some runners would say pain) of having Justin with us.
Equal measures of Aussie Grit, winning charm with the necessary dollop of
professionalism; together result in the hard-training, smooth talking,
motivating specimin to be found circulating relentlessly around Iffley Road.
Always ready to say what's on his mind with a worrying hint of pyromania Justin
certainly makes us smile. Someone who leads by sadistic example, the track team
is sure to be pulled a long way this year.

This Lancashire Lad is currently in his second year of Chemistry at Christ Church. When not involved in the
time-consuming and often difficult (at least after the 4th pint) task of exploring Oxford for a suitable spot
for a social, he can be found training-it around for the 400m. Again, hardly the easiest task (especially
after the 4th rep): many of the club’s 400m specialists share the view a good training session must leave
you about to vom…
Never one to let a good truism go to waste, Tom is sure make this years’ socials something to remember
(although not necessarily coherently).

The future's bright, the future's... Madgetttt! Driving us wild this year,
Steph has brought a smile to many faces as much for her winning grin, friendly
nature and large personality. Returning this year after spending time off with
injury, this former English Schools Champion certainly has the talent to kick
arse this year, and is putting the effort in. Familiar with Barique and his
homies, Steph ensures that whenever we go out, we are treated to the VIP area
complete with Sedan chairs and muscular Egyptians wafting us with palm leaves
at filth. Steph, we salute you.

First sighted in New College JCR, Kabir continues the trend of Americans coming to help OUAC wherever needed. A webmaster of high pedigree complete with the mandatory glasses, Kabir will have the website in his firm grasp this year. Smiling more often than not, and somewhat appropriately for a computer Scientist lives almost nocturnally, this years website promises to look good. Just excuse the inevitable American spelling.

| Martine Bomb |
|
2006 was a phenomenal season for Martine. Leading by example at the Varsity match, she won the 400m
hurdles in a new national record for her native Luxembourg, before pulling out a stunning
0.01s victory in the 100m hurdles. These performances saw the blonde bombshell rise to
the top of the OUAC all-time rankings in both events, but more crucially also secured her
a place in the Oxford Student’s “Top 50 people worth knowing in Oxford”. With a new found
commitment to 400m training, the best is undoubtedly yet to come. As if this wasn’t enough,
in her spare time, Martine enjoys a little recreational biochemistry, a little recreational sailing
and of course, the occasional recreational glass of wine. This year Martine will be using her
experience as 2006 President to make sure our fixtures run smoothly, and if her success as President
is anything to go by, our fixtures are in safe hands.

Captain Sparkle has hit town! Originally
scouted for the hammer while showing off his footwork Moonwalking perfectly
along the dancefloor of his native Bedford, Josh can throw the hammer very far.
But do not be fooled: behind the cuddly sun-loving, action-historian exterior lies a deep
athletic intellect that Josh deploys with ruthless efficiency when training for
the hammer. A hard-working athlete, Josh trains just as hard as many solely for
the sprints, on top of which is the hammer throwing, weigth lifting and core
work that allows him to throw distances. A pleasure to have around, Josh sets
an example of how to train hard and enjoy it.
