Good to see such a good turnout today, so cheers to everyone who came along! A few special thanks due – to our Captains Hannah, Peter and James, who were all important in making sure the day all went off without a hitch, and also to Geraldine and Jonathan for organising the food. Simon

The sports day is this Saturday (MARCH 11), and, even better, the forecast is currently set for sunny spells and no rain with the temperature at 9 almost breaking into that magic double-figures territory! The venue is the New College sportsgrounds, off St Cross Rd between the Law/Social Sciences building and Linacre, and there is shelter should the forecast change. But the sports will go on regardless! If the soccer team is out in the rain, then it’s the least we can do to stand in the rain and watch them.

The day will start at 11am when we will witness the warming up of the mighty OUANZ soccer team before they take on the OU Korean football team with the winner being able to decide what the game is called. Kick-off is 11:30am. Meanwhile, the netballers will be gathering on the other side of the field for the New Zealand and Tasmania vs the other leftover bits of Australia vs the Uni Blues triangular series.

Lunch will be at 1:30pm and will consist of lots of hot carb-loaded pizzas for all the sportsmen and sportswomen out there. There will be some soft-drinks included, but please bring anything else that you would like to drink. After lunch we’ll break out into touch rugby and ultimate.

You’ll be able to just turn up on the day and play, but, if you have not already done so, it will help if you can let our captains know for organisational purposes. Netball is Hannah Tonkin @ Balliol, soccer is Peter Power @ imm and touch is James Hutton @ stcatz. Any gear you may have (Frisbees, rugby balls) is encouraged!

Get in touch with any questions, and see you Saturday! Simon B.

** Oxford Wins Australian Rules Football Varsity Match **

    Varsity
Games of AFL and mixed netball are played against Cambridge annually and are to be held in Oxford this academic year (probably in February). 04/05 saw the ledger even at 1-1: the AFL team is keen to avenge their narrow loss last year and match the stellar win by the mixed netball side.

This year we would like to add touch football and perhaps some other sports.

    Australian Rules Football
Oxford is about as far from the MCG as is possible but it is quickly becoming the new home of Australian Rules football. Training usually starts in October and all are welcome from complete novices to old hacks.

    Mixed Netball
04/05 was a great year for the OUANZ mixed netball side- convincing wins over both Oxford Blues and Cambridge ANZ society netball teams has left them the proud holders of a new (ebay-acquired) trophy. We are always keen to get new players of any experience- the netball varsity will be held later in the year wait for an announcement on the OUANZ email list. Photos of last years win
