THE ASTROTURF: named "The Fletcher Field" after Dr Robin Fletcher,
a former Warden of Rhodes House, the facility has realised the
long held dreams of Oxford Hockey to have a true home base of
world class quality. The pitch was installed some eighty metres
away from the track where Sir Roger Bannister ran his historic
3 mins 59.4 secs in May 1954.
Completed in February 1999, the quality of the surface has
attracted International training camps, and is also used by
a number of Oxford teams (including OURFC and OUAFC). Southwest
Recreational Industries Inc. designed and installed the pitch.
The turf, AstroTurf 12, is a finely tuned, highly engineered
surfacing system which incorporates the very best of current
sports turf technology.
