This is the home of the Oxford Blues, the University of Oxford's varsity Ice Hockey team. Our international squad consists of players from the UK, Canada, USA and continental Europe. We compete in the BUIHA (British University Ice Hockey Association). Additionally, the team plays a series of exhibition matches against French professional teams in early January. The Oxford University Ice Hockey Club (Dark Blues) was established in 1885 and is the second oldest ice hockey club in the world after McGill University. In recognition our sweater hangs proudly in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Like all Oxford Varsity teams our chief rival is Cambridge University (Light Blues), and our rivalry is among the oldest worldwide, with the first match believed to have taken place in 1885. Famous Alumni include Rt. Hon. Lester B. Pearson (former Canadian Prime Minister and Nobel Peace Prize Winner), Rt. Hon. Roland Michener (Governor-General of Canada), Hon. Dr. George Stanley (Designer of the Canadian flag) and Clarence Campbell (former NHL President). If you're interested in learning more, please contact the current team captain (see Contacts). |
