1997/1998 Season

This year saw our A team come fourth in the Warwick University Competition. Another good performance by the A team saw them placed sixth in the Student Nationals held at Birmingham University, while the B team came fifteenth, thanks to Aberdeen University who kindly lent us Fiona MacKeddie, many thanks, since we only had three people turn up. Here is the final Results Table from the student nationals. Our final competition of the year saw us triumph over the students from the East Anglian Polytechnic, otherwise known as Cambridge University, in the varsity match, this was probably due to the greater amount of support we received from our spectators. Okay there were only four of them, but that was still four more than the other team managed. Special mention should go to James Harrop and Sian Clement who provided two of the greatest comedy moments in lifesaving competition history. James tried to attract the attention of a drowning casualty by saying in his most polite voice, "excuse me sir, could you look at me please" and Sian's attempt to get a bystander to call for an ambulance just as they fainted left Sian with a rather red face.
