Team Profiles

Oxford University Ladies Team

Christine Ashton
College Jesus
Subject Physics
School Monmouth Girls
Previous Orienteering Won VM last year, but is worried about being beaten by her cousin at Cambridge in '98. GB Junior Squad member. Three time JWOC runner.
Small but surprisingly fast is one description of Christine. Keen gossip spreader when she writes the OUOC newsletter.
Nicky King
College Trinity
Subject Biology
School Sunny Hill, Bruton
Previous Orienteering Half-blue in first year, team colours last year.
Orienteering has slipped a bit recently due to an unhealthy interest in rowing, but is fighting back now - won a yellow course last term! Known to turn up on a Sunday morning wearing last night's mini-skirt.
Pauline Sinclair
College Merton
Subject Physics PhD
School The Queen's School, Chester
Previous Orienteering 1994 5th, 1995 6th, 1996 8th, 1997 Ret'd injured.

Oxford University Mens Team

Duncan Archer
College Merton
Subject Maths and Computation
School Yarm School, The North
Won VM in 1996 and second in 1997. Received full blue last year. Enjoys a pint of vodka on tour each summer. According to his girlfriend, "This stunning six foot blonde has been orienteering since his tender years. Since then he has progressed from wearing baby rompers to sexy lycra and from running into sofas to fighting with trees, barbed wire fences, and the odd sheep tick. He has orienteered extensively throughout Europe and has lots of mugs and coasters to prove this." Selected to run JWOC in 1996.
Ian Cumpstey
College St John's
Subject Chemistry
School Manchester Grammer School
Previous VMs 1996 - 9th (5th Oxford). 1997 - 11th (5th Oxford).
His most depressing injury was a 6 month off walking bit in 1995. Doesn't remember having any dead good runs ever, although did win the White Rose overall prize last year. Avid attendee and drinker at OUOC social events (even if no-one else turns up).
Dave Currie
College St John's
Subject Engineering and Computer Science
School Roundwood Park School, Harpenden
Half blues in last two VMs. Has been orienteering since the age of 8 but still unlikely to make it round 11.8km alive.
Dave Donaldson
College Trinity
Subject Physics
School Oakville Trafalgar High School, Oakville, Canada.
When not training (!) Dave spends his time in Physics labs, watching 'Due South' on the TV, explaining that he is not American, and trying to find someone who will play ice hockey with him.
Steve Fisher
College Nuffield (previously New College)
Subject Some social science PhD
School St Alban's School, Hertfordshire (1985-1992)
Was the 4th Oxford runner in 94, 95 and 97 (consistency). Having survived frequent attacks of Covey-Crump as an undergraduate, Steve is enjoying the freedom to train that graduate life has afforded him. He is expecting this Varisty Match to be his best yet. In his own words, "The Tabs have about as much chance as a bag of drowning kittens."

OUOC Reserves

Andy Macleod
College Brasenose
Subject Chemistry
Well known for his appalling hand writing that has earned him his alias name 'Nailest'. No need for specialist O-kit when orienteering. Known to take the odd photo or two at OUOC socials catching all unawares.
Pete Murphy
College St Catz
Subject Physics
Another keen physicist (a sad fact that half of OUOC is plagued with this disease). Previous owner of "Chunder Chunks Award" for dedication and enthusiasm at social events. Also does a spot of orienteering.
Hedley Procter
College University
Subject Physics
School Bablake School, Coventry
He started orienteering in 1996 and has quickly progressed onto the international stage as one of Britain's rising stars. Briefly flummoxed by the Scandinavian terrain last summer, Hedley showed remarkable rates of improvement at the O-Ringen, where he radically ditched his "UNIV tacky bottoms". Unfortunately this term Hedley has not orienteered much as he has been in and out of the alcholol rehab. centre, again. And he has had finals. If he had been able to maintain his meteoric rise up the colour coded league, he would surely be world champion by now.

CUOC Reserves

John Lydon
College Wolfson
School Various (Got expelled a lot!)
Previous VM Positions None.
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf.

Organiser/Planner's Comments

I have no items of lost property - although there may be a pair of shorts and some dark socks left in the hall that could be ours?. I'm not going to waffle on, but thanks for coming, thanks to all the helpers - glad you liked it - thanks for gifts and kind words. I enjoyed doing it! Brown Clee National Event in Year 2000!
