Comments

With Plymouth demoted from Div 2 at the start of this season, Oxford revved ourselves up for what we thought would be a tough match, and pulled some spectacular play out of the bag in a thoroughly convincing performance and a well-deserved 3-0 victory.

Right from the start of the match, Oxford were calm and controlled. Our serving, so dismal in our last couple of matches, was on fire and virtually error-free throughout the match. Plymouth were a very strong team in defence, seeming to always manage somehow to get a shot up with a flailing hand or foot, but only one of their players had a strong attack, and Oxford took full advantage of this weakness. Oxford covered the court well, with excellent passing, particularly from our libero Jenna, allowing Cecilia to set up some super-powerful attacks through the outside from Jana and Claire and the middle from Erica and Sam. The middles were also in total control of the net throughout the game, with massive blocks from all three players during the different sets.

Oxford fairly comfortably wrapped up the first set 25-21, worked well together under a bit more pressure in the second to come out 25-23 up, and then dominated in the third with a 25-12 finish. Every single player played at the top of their game, with excellent serving, defending, setting, attacking and blocking, and it was a real delight to be part of such an energised team.

Well done everyone!
