Another excellent performance saw Oxford win their second match of the day, beating Reading Aces decisively 3-0.
Oxford played strongly right from the start, with four great winning serves by Erica giving us an early lead that we capitalised on with positive defence and dominant attacks. Jana's superb 5-point serve run put us further ahead and, never looking in danger, we closed out the set 25-19.
In the second set it was Kath's turn for an excellent serving run, giving us a great 9-4 head start, and consistent serving by all the team proved a decisive factor in the set. Reading had some good attacks, but our defence were up to the challenge, gamely covering powerful line attacks and sneaky tips alike and enabling Sarah to set up our own storming hits and a 25-20 victory.
Erica's consistent serving combined with commanding hitting and blocking at the net again took us to an early 6-0 lead in the third set, and with our defence and attack all fired up we made short work of our opposition, winning the third set 25-12.
Reading can be tough opponents and we did extremely well to keep them under pressure and on the back-foot throughout the match, never letting them get into the game. A key difference to previous matches was our fantastic serving and distinct lack of unforced errors. Everyone played exceptionally well, both powerfully and cleverly, and the teamwork and communication were first-rate. Well done everyone, and a particular ‘well done' to Jana who claimed her well-deserved second MVP of the day.
