cuppers tournament 2011

Every year we host a Cupper’s tournament, details below, as members of OUWCC I would hope that you take the lead with your colleges and make sure that they enter, as a college or jointly with another, If you don’t think that you’ll have enough people to play, I’ll be able to put you in contact with a sister college!

Saturday 28th May 2011 (Saturday of 4th week)

Cuppers is such a fun and relaxed competition, and an opportunity for you to practice your skills, with the main squad looking so good, it’s a great chance to get more colleges involved with the women’s side of the game.

Can you please forward this email to your Women's Cricket Captain, (or decide you have that post yourselves) and ask them to fill in the attached form and send it back to me (Sophie Edelsten, Oriel), along with a cheque for £10/team, payable to OUWCC By Friday 1st week Trinity Term (7th May) - to ensure entry into this summer's competition. This will cover teas and Pitch Hire

This year we are changing the format of Women’s Cricket Cuppers, to make it much more fun and exciting. Instead of running games in a league based situation over Trinity Term, we have changed it to an 8 a side tournament which will be held over one day.

The tournaments time/date and place are still to be confirmed. However, the tournament will not be held until around 4th week, allowing time for you to get some practice in or organise some friendly games. (OUWCC can provide some coaching sessions)

We plan to split the teams into two groups and use two pitches to play a league type tournament. Three points will be awarded for a win and two points for a tie. There will be a play-off game between the first placed teams from each group and a trophy will be awarded to the winners.

If you have any further questions please get in touch.

Normal rules of cricket will apply with the exception of the following:

Weather permitting; each innings will last for 8 overs.

Wides and no balls will count as 2 runs and no extra ball will be bowled, except in the final over (8th Over) when only 1 run will be scored and an extra ball will be bowled.

No bowler may bowl more than 2 overs in a game.

The opening two batsmen should be players who have not bowled (or do not intend to bowl, when the team is batting first), unless all the players have bowled (or intend to bowl) during the match.

OUWCC will supply scorers and umpires on the day of the tournament.

In the event of bad weather someone will try to contact you as soon as possible, if the weather is uncertain and no one has contacted you before you leave, please do email.

Many thanks and I look forward to receiving lots of entries shortly!
