the varsity match
VARSITY 2012
The Varsity Match will be held at Lord's Cricket Ground, in London on Saturday 16th June. The women will play on the nursery ground at the same time as the men on the main pitch. 11am start, it is likely that tickets will be around £10 for a ground pass, and this enables you to watch either the women or the men's matches, and move between them throughout the day.
The Varsity T20 fixture will this year be held in Cambridge - date tbc.
Varsity
In every sport, Oxford and Cambridge compete in an annual Varsity match. Some sports are more famed for this, for example rowing and rugby receive extensive television coverage. However, the women's cricket team is actually one of Oxford's most successful sporting sides in recent times.
The venue alternated between the first class grounds of The Parks (Oxford) and Fenners (Cambridge) for a number of years, and recently the format has been 50 overs a side. The 2000 fixture was the closest in memory, with Oxford triumphing by a single run!
From 2001 onwards, we played at Lord's, the home of cricket, with our match taking place on the Nursery Ground concurrently with the men's on the main ground. In both 2001 and 2002, we received more press coverage than the men did. :-)

History of the Varsity Match
The results on the current Varsity trophy go back to 1979, although we know a Varsity match was played at least in the 60s.
Originally it was a declaration contest (hence the draws), but it was changed to a limited overs fixture (max 50 overs per side) in 1996.
