Welcome to Paul's Personal Work Space

Hello. In this little corner of Oxford's virtual world you may find information about my day-to-day activities, covering work and study and some personal interests. On St. Frideswide's Day 2009, I started in my present post of Web Officer at the Museum of the History of Science, almost immediately after completing a Master's in religious studies, which was a new chapter for me. Previously I was employed by Computing Services between 2000 and 2008. In fact, I didn't leave IT completely, helping out with the Web site for St. Cross, the college where I was based.

Naturally, these pages relate mainly to IT, with links to various writings. I try also to convey some other aspects about the location and environment in general. I must admit that I prefer my present office location to Banbury Road - it's marvellous to wander around this area at lunchtime. Yet, Computing Services retains a charm - with the redevelopment of the Radcliffe Infirmary site, I might still prefer it to remain in its row of Georgian buildings with a rabbit warren of corridors, winding staircases, attics and basements. :-)

Amongst my current research topics is the design of social networking sites. In December 2010 I gave a paper at the World Conference on Buddhism and Science, in which I applied Buddhist teachings that focus on the cultivation of true friendship:
