Our recent studies involve the investigation of the function of human coronary resistance arteries obtained from patients with atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus and hypertension. In addition, arteries from the heart and skeletal muscle are being investigated in animal models of diseases. With these preparations we can make detailed quantitative analysis in a well-defined and physiologic system. We want to develop a greater understanding of how microvessels are controlled in health and disease and discover new targets for therapeutic intervention.
