Cheltenham Illustration Awards Exhibition 2012 -Tales of Magical Objects

18 October – 25 November 2012

Cheltenham Illustration AwardsThis Upper Gallery exhibition will include a selection of highly commended entries and the winner’s work from this years Cheltenham Illustration Awards, hosted by the Illustration Department at the University of Gloucestershire.

The internationally acclaimed awards, now in their sixth year, invited student artists and up-and-coming illustrators to submit entries on the theme of 'Tales of Magical Objects', with an emphasis on narrative illustration. This event has already gained wide acceptance as an international competition amongst students and new illustrators with hundreds of entries every year, all of them to an extremely high standard and demonstrating a wide and innovative range of styles.

In January key pieces from this exhibition will be loaned to four Oxfordshire secondary schools. Pupils will base a unit of work on the Museum's exhibition while using the artists' illustrations as inspiration for their own narrative paintings. This coupling of an exciting exhibition with the response of professional artists should provide pupils with a unique educational opportunity.
