Explore the Museum

Pick up a trail
- There are an assortment of family trails to pick up at the information desk. Alternatively, bring one that you have downloaded at home.

The trails are designed to help families explore the Museum together, and many are particularly suitable for under 5s.

Borrow a torch! - The museum can be quite dark in places. A torch will help you find your way and discover hidden wonders in the nooks and crannies. (£2 deposit)

Get stuck in

The Museum runs an exciting programme of free family friendly activities. There is no need to book, but children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Make a bee-line to the Pitt Rivers and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History for a relaxing afternoon. Try our activity backpacks, sorting boxes, trails, colouring sheets, story corner and craft activities. Suitable for all ages.

Pitt Stops
First Saturday of the month 13.00 - 16.00 (and in school holidays)

Fun ways to explore the Museum and discover more about our exciting collections. Make something super to take home.

Join the Pitt Rivers and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History for an astonishing array of activities for the whole family. From art activities and trails, to handling tables and family talks, you'll want to try it all! Suitable for all ages.

Family Facilities

babies in the museumBaby care Breastfeeding is welcome in the Museum. Baby changing facilities are available on the ground floor.

Toilets There are accessible toilets on the ground floor.


Bags and Buggies Buggies are welcome in the Museum. All floors are accessible by lift. There are no cloakroom facilities in the Museum.

Food and Drink Do feel free to picnic on the lawn outside, but please don't eat in the museum. There are no cafe facilities in the Museum.

Shop The Museum shop sells a diverse selection of books and gifts, many at pocket-money prices.

Disabled visitors Parking for disabled badge holders is situated at the rear of the Museum. The Museums has wheelchair access. Please speak to Museum staff for details.
