Ladakh film by Major Peter Hailey (c.1939-45)

In 2009 the Museum acquired an 8mm film shot in Ladakh by Major Peter Hailey during his service there in WWII. The footage is both black and white and colour, and shows scenes around Leh, as well as interesting scenes such as at Hemis monastery, showing the cham (masked dance) representing the eight forms of Padmasambhava, performed in the courtyward at Hemis with a large crowd of Ladakhi onlookers.
