I am currently working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Perkin group at the University of Oxford holding a Forschungsstipendium of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). My research interests are the fundamental analysis of friction forces at solid|liquid – interfaces at the molecular and atomic scale. In particular I am interested in altering these forces in situ in order to modify and control surface interactions. To achieve this goal I am combining tools as the atomic force microscope (AFM) and the surface force balance (SFB) with electrochemical methods. This approach enables studying well defined interfaces. Currently I am focussing on ionic liquids as high performance lubricants. The electrical potential allows a fast and reversible switching between high and low friction regimes by tuning the interfacial properties of an ionic liquid.
