- Result of the Masters Millennium Row now up.
December 31st 1999
- To mark the new millennium, three groups of (mad) masters rowers are racing the first synchronised multi-continent water race ever. At 12:00 midnight on December 31st local time in New Zealand, David Rodgers' Hamilton Rowing Club (NZ) masters coxed four will row on the Waikato river course, 1000 metres. Setting out at precisely the same time will be crews from Tideway Scullers (UK) on the Championship Course from Chiswick Bridge to Barnes Bridge, and from Kent Mitchell Rowing Club from Redwood City in San Francisco Bay. The UK team is racing at 11 am local time and the US team at 3 am local time, both on 31st December. The New Zealand crew will notch up not just the first rowing race but the first sporting event of the new Millennium, and all three crews will be in constant cellphone contact during the race, allowing them to shout as they finish and produce a result to argue about for the next thousand years.... More information here with the results.
