World Championships TV coverage 1999

The Rowing Service

Thursday 26th August

Updates to several countries' coverage today (see below table).

I have been told that the following TV stations are taking the feed from the local broadcasters at the course in St. Catherines. They are not telling FISA which dates and times they are broadcasting, but this should help the following countries work out where to look.

In Europe for various reasons Eurosport is not covering the Championshipslive. They will be broadcasting what at the moment is said to be one hour on Tuesday 31st August to all Eursport countries. Obviously all networks which usually show live snippets, such as the BBC in the UK, will carry finals at the weekend for those events they find interesting.

German TV is listed on this webpage - in fact not just Germany but all German-language coverage.

BBC in the UK: At the moment the live coverage and highlights are Saturday 2:55-3:10 pm, 3:30-3:45 pm, and Sunday 2:25-2:40 pm, 2:55-3:10 pm, 3:25-4:00 pm. All on BBC 2. But those setting videos, remember that Grandstand schedules often shift, and it's wise to add a big period either side to your timing. Radio: - Five Live is taking coverage from the course, for the semi-finals it is expected to be not live but hourly round-ups, at half past the hour. I will talk to the commentators on Saturday morning Canadian time and update this page when they have set what times they are going to do live race commentary.

In Australia, while Channel 7 has the rights, there can be no live coverage - there isn't room in the schedule. There will possibly be an hour's highlights in a week's time, also possibly something on Sportsworld.

The USA does have coverage organised, through the EBU. I do not have details.

Canada is of course one of the luckiest. A local cable channel in the St. Catharines area is showing a round-up programme nightly, with team interviews etc. Live coverage is expected for the finals.

If anyone finds out further information for any country and wants me to publish it, write me an email and I will put it up here.
