Live Action Role Playing
Current LARP Organiser: Tom Lear
System: Memento Mundi (What is LARP? - Safety Rules - Social Contract - Meeting Place)
(Note that this year we are looking to replace the current system, so on some weeks we will be running playtests instead of the usual Memento Mundi.)
Live Action Roleplaying (LARP or LRP) is the kind that involves dressing up in costume, having a set of physical and magical stats, and using them in conjunction with foam weapons to adventure in the great outdoors. OURPGSoc has its own homebrewed system for linear LARP ('linear' meaning that each session is an adventure or dungeon crawl with planned encounters, loot, and some sort of end goal for the players).
LARP runs throughout the year on Saturdays, both in term and out of it. Every week, the GM for the upcoming Saturday will send out an adventure brief on the LARP mailing list. You'll have the option of playing a character or joining the monster team, who provide all the encounters and NPCs for the player party. Characters gain XP by joining adventures, and can level up and gain new abilities over time.
Where? Shotover Country Park - meeting at the Magic Cafe on Magdalen Road
When? Meet at the Magic Cafe at 11 AM (10 AM in winter - the LARPO will announce the switchover).
Cost? £3 per session, but the first two are free
How? The best way to get involved is to sign up for the mailing list and come along on a Saturday to see what you think! Monstering is a really good way to get the hang of the system and have fun with low pressure before creating your first character.
And before that was Nocturne, which remains as an archive site.
