IMPERIUM ESTABLISHES BASES ON AA'MEY, ALGOL, XEROS 188
The Imperium has established military bases on Aa'mey, Algol and Xeros 188. Despite the reports of atrocities by their soldiers, no one has made any effort to stop them or drive them out. It seems that the bases are only inhabited by Ragma. It is reported that raiding parties leave the bases regularly to steal the natives' produce, and anyone living near a base has been informed they now live on "Imperial territory", and must obey Zhanian law or be killed. They are not told what Zhanian law is, but "ignorance of the law is no excuse". It is not known how many have been killed in this way.
Several raids have been attempted against the bases, but, without military support, they were easily beaten off.
The one exception is in the Karellian federation. The Imperium has moved their forces into position, but after the visit of P5 to that system, the Ragma are reported to be simply wandering around with silly grins on their faces, handing out flowers.
WAR BREAKS OUT ON EDGE OF CIVCORE
War has been declared by both sides in a conflict between the Amorians and the Zadani. The Zadani seem to be blaming Amorians for massacring their colony on Xan 15-26, where less than 300 people survived to rebuild the planet. The Amorians claim no knowledge of the attack, and accuse the Zadani of attempting to discredit them in the eyes of CivCore. The first engagement of the war has occurred over Amoria. No victor has been announced. The rest of CivCore seems reluctant to take sides.
VLARG UNFIT TO DRIVE
Johnny Vlarg's performances in the Pentagram Challenge and on Barenor were, not to put too fine a point on it, atrocious. How such an appallingly inept individual can claim to be a superhero, or for that matter be allowed to walk freely in public, is beyond the comprehension of any rational person. Johnny Vlarg is a menace, and his exploits must be stopped.
CLANS AT WAR
Despite attempts from a number of intergalactic peace brokers, including P5, who organised a somewhat ill-fated orgy on Virgus 8, and efforts by the CCF, Clans Xitra and Irnabe remain at war. Casualties are mounting, and it seems impossible to get members of the two clans in the same area without a fight breaking out. P5 and the Virgin Bar have set up mechanisms to keep them apart...
P5 ENTERTAINS THE TROOPS
The gigantic pink brothel has been seen around the Karellian systems, where they are welcoming the warlike Ragma from the Imperium and Karellian forces alike. All nice whores love a soldier? Well, the soldiers seem to be pretty keen on them.
IMPERIUM GAIN JUMP TECHNOLOGY
Reports are coming in that the ships of the Imperium now include a small number of jump-capable vessels. The source of these craft is unknown: the Imperium has not before now displayed any knowledge of jump-drive technology.
NEW EMPIRE CLEANS UP
The New Empire has moved in force into the area of the Amorian/Zadani conflict, taking advantage of the confusion to claim the area. They metal plated a planet, Xan 15-26, again giving both the CCF and the colony less than half an hour to evacuate (impossible since all transport vessels on Xan 15-26 were destroyed in the Dark Legion raid). Well, the war is over, but at what cost?
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS...
The dates have now been set for the championship contest of the Muat-Tien. Anyone interested in competing is asked to contact the Algol Game Worlds on Matrix node 01-07-23-29 with details, including previous Muat-Tien experience. All combats will be non-fatal.
ENTER THE DARK LEGION
A fleet of black and chrome ships not resembling any known CivCore design have been identified carrying out an attack on one of Illisthia's trading moons. An Illisthian port has been completely destroyed by the raiders, who were dressed in black and seemed to have no controlling influence nor identifiable race: everything not tied down went. The raiders are being colloquially named 'The Dark Legion'. This was not a military target...
The latest sensation to rock the CivCore's music scene, Funky and the Bananas, has been touring the galaxy led by Funky Banana the Plantain on bass, and consisting of a few Helyans and Karellians. Most agree the band could not play to save their lives, but Funky's incredible bass solos always get the crowd screaming for more, and all agree the point at the end of the act where Funky explodes is more than worth the ticket price. Their first single - "Boom Boom Boom That's the Noise a Banana Makes" - has reached number 7 in the charts. Funky is understood to be looking for additional band members.
DARK LEGION ATTACKS KARELLIAN BASES
The Dark Legion has blown up a dam on one outlying Karellian colony, and a power station on another. Both raids were carried out from space, with black clad troops cleaning up the survivors.
NO GREAT SHAKES
A re-run of the Pentagram Challenge has been won by the Clansman Shakes, despite arriving at the race start with only seconds to spare. The Amorians M'Lanu and R'Tani took second and third places. RacerZ, who was spotted in the Zadani system at the time of the race, was reportedly not at all pleased that the race had been started with no publicity whatever, and has accused Shakes of ungentlemanly conduct.
SKITHRASS NUMBERS INCREASE
Despite the threat of invasion by both the New Empire and the Imperium of Zhan, Skithrass are continuing to flood into the Karellian Federation, a typical reason given by a new arrival being "They don't hate us. Everyone else does". Exact numbers are unknown, since Skithrass are fairly secretive, don't pay taxes, and all look pretty much alike anyway.
ROCARNA RECYCLES REPELLANT WRITER
Rocarna has issued an official statement concerning the writings of their scientist Duonin, who wrote the book "Aliens and Rocarna: A Comparison". His views were not representative of Rocarna in general, who appreciate the advanced culture and technology of some alien races. The Rocarna have no desire to rule the universe, content with merely being moral, cultural and social superiors. For making such dangerous comments as he did, Duonin has been recycled.
LORD NEMESIS LEADS DARK LEGION!
These pictures, taken by survivors of an outlying Karellian colony hit by the Dark Legion, show a power-armoured, black clad commander whose face is hidden by his helmet. He is called Lord Nemesis, and the handful of survivors, most of them having been personally tortured by Nemesis testify to his inhuman cruelty, sadism and astounding combat abilities.
NEW CHARITY FOUNDED
A new charity, 'Refugees from Cymlana', has been established through the GMG central bank. Heroic Amorian pilot R'Tani and a cast of refugee Cymlana have made public appeals for donations, which are flooding in from all over CivCore. A side effect has been that Cymlana actors are now in high demand for commercials and children's broadcasts.
* Galactic Enterprises and Mining has negotiated a deal with the Zadani government about mining in the Zadani System. We do not know yet whether the New Empire will honour these treaties.
* StarMerc announced today record profits on its new ranges of light emergency evacuation vessels and fitting luggage.
CCF VICTORY AT GRANGOR
The CCF bases and the Grangor system were almost caught by surprise by an attack by the New Empire. While the Second Fleet was making a tactical retreat to the far end to the system, fighting of some smaller attack vessels, the First and Third Fleet were alarmed. It looked like almost certain defeat for the CCF, when the Third Fleet arrived at the Grangor jump gate and swiftly engaged the New Empire. The surprise element caught the New Empire ships squeezed in between two experienced fleets. After heavy casualties the New Empire suddenly jumped out off the system. A heavy torpedo fired at one of the attackers hit then the Line ship 'Remember Hel', and destroyed it completely. Grand Admiral Sulla Varris is none the less 'very proud of the tactical abilities of his officers, especially Admirals Marius and B'Reit.
JOHNNY VLARG 'APOLOGISES' TO BARENOR
Barenor seems to have had a pretty hard time of it at the moment. Following the disasters blamed on Vlarg a few months ago, and Vlarg's polite but possibly ill-considered apology, the New Empire have taken the planet. With the citizens and CCF given only half an hour's warning, Barenor has been metal plated like Cymlana was. Perhaps they won't get round to 'rebuilding their civilisation', eh, Vlarg? This reporter wonders whether he is in league with the New Empire.
A MAN, A PLANET, A HUGE SPACE BATTLE - CYMLANA
True to their word, the Imperium of Zhan attempted to retake Cymlana. A huge fleet was sent in, prepared for a large battle, and they easily overpowered the token force the New Empire had left behind. When it became clear they were trying to remove the planet's metal coating, however, the Empire poured in hundreds of ships to see them off, diverting some forces from the battle at Grangor. A pitched battle is taking place above the planet at this very moment.
Vlarg was late for a press conference regarding the Barenor situation, apparently due to a vicious assault. He arrived at the conference in a flurry of speed, saying 'I'm so sorry I'm a little late. I just had to stop and teach a bad guy a much needed lesson'.
A large asteroid in a minor colony of the Karellian Federation has been utterly destroyed by a group of around 15 Handrahen. The ships appeared in the system, practically vaporised the asteroid within minutes, then left without explanation. The planetoid was believed to be uninhabited. An unidentified space ship crash landed on the rock a few days before the attack, but a sensor scan had revealed no survivors.
NEMESIS MEETS HIS NEMESIS?
Johnny Vlarg has prevented an attack on one of Rocarna's less central areas and entered personal combat with Lord Nemesis on the flagship of the Dark Legion. Vlarg attributes his knowledge of the area to be attacked to 'prior planning and the luck the good guys always have'. The Legion took heavy losses, but Vlarg lost his right hand, which has been replaced by a cybernetic 'Good as New' alternative. Vlarg says 'I won't give up, I'll bring him to justice. The good guys always win in the end.'
SEX FOR SALE
The Ikzari have shown themselves to be selling toys more twisted than some you can get on P5, including sexual implants. Clans members particularly are keen on getting their hands on this technology, and Irnabe have negotiated for exclusive sales rights...
A Tiknin named Sari Heldon, subject of the Imperium of Zhan, claimed to have predicted the downfall of the Imperium of Zhan and a long age of barbarism, through his own science of "psycho-geography". He claimed the only way this could be prevented is if he and his department (who, coincidentally, were all female) were allowed to set up a scientific Foundation at a key location, which just happened to be the tropical paradise planet of Primus. He has been executed.
The Helyan colonialists on Backwater 267, a small system four light years from Rocarna declared their independence from Hel. After a small Helyan police force was shot to pieces by the colonialists, it is unlikely that the Hel will care about the plight of the settlers any longer.
DARK LEGION IDENTIFIED?
Rumours abound that the mysterious Dark Legion may be linked to recent peace movements. Although there is no direct evidence of this, the Legion has certainly been striking in areas about to become involved in warfare. The 'Galactic Harmony Movement', the largest anti-war organisation, has strongly denied all such rumours. A spokesman said "To act like this Dark Legion would betray every single one of our principles. The idea that we are somehow involved is utterly preposterous."
CCF OFICER DEFENDS THARILS
Usually well-informed sources report that a senior officer in the CCF is trying to convince his fellows that Tharils are something more than useful domesticated animals. We do not know how successful this officer will be in his latest cause. But we doubt that it will be an easy task.
