Logistical Information
Location and Dates of the Conference:
Our conference, Women, Leadership and Mosques: Changes in Contemporary Islamic Authority, will take place at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford on Friday and Saturday, October 16 and 17, 2009.
St Antony’s College is located in north-central Oxford, between the Woodstock and Banbury Roads. It is a 15-20 minute walk or a short cab ride away from Oxford’s central bus and train stations. See this map for further details.
We encourage participants to plan on arriving by the afternoon of Thursday October 15 and departing on Sunday October 18, 2009.

In addition to the airport options that they mention (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted), it is possible to reach Oxford from:
(1) Birmingham International Airport, which is connected to Oxford via direct train service (approximate journey time only 1 hour)
(2) London City Airport, which is connected to the London Underground; to reach Oxford, travel on the Underground to London Paddington train station, which has direct train service to Oxford (total journey time approximately 2 hours)
Round trip bus or train service between Oxford and these London airports and stations varies in cost. Budget at least 25-35 pounds for round-trip public transportation tickets, and check websites for further information.
Car service from London or its airports is generally available (booked in advance) for approximately 70-80 pounds each way. Two Oxford-based car services are OxiCars and CCB Cars.
The Eurostar train terminus (London St Pancreas) is connected by the Underground to London Paddington. From London Paddington, there is direct train service to Oxford.
Accommodation in Oxford:
We encourage participants to book accommodation in Oxford for at least three nights – Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 15, 16 and 17, 2009.
We usually budget approximately 70 pounds per night for accommodation. Email the organizers for a list of convenient accommodation.
If you would prefer to book your accommodation online, I have received an email from the following the Hotels Combined website indicating that their Education Support Initiative offers a 10%post-purchase rebate to participants in academic conferences.

The program is open to all current university students, staff member and conference attendees. It is a simple 3-step process:
1. Use HotelsCombined.com to find and reserve the optimal accommodation with a participating source. For example Hotels.com.
2. E-mail or Fax a copy of the reservation confirmation document to our Education Support team (educationsupport [at] hotelscombined.com).
3. Receive the rebate equal to 10% of the total cost of stay.
This initiative is free of any charges and you are very welcome to offer it to your attendees.
