I work in vaccine production optimisation. In my previous job I was making recombinant influenza viruses with chimeric hemagglutinin. These attempts formed part of pandemic preparednes efforts to increase virus yield in vaccine manufacture. In my DPhil project I am employing gene editing techniques such as CRISPR to modulate the host immune response in order to improve virus growth in the host. To evaluate the outcomes of these gene edits I am using RNA sequencing to look at immune genes and signalling pathways that become activated in host cells during viral infection.
