Crivens! Ma kilt's on fire!
Every week, we run regular classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and every other Thursday, but there are also a number of other Scottish dancing-related events happening in the area! Many of these are run outside the OUSDS – these are marked with a . Click the image for a link to the Facebook page with more details and to see who else is going. There are also events happening outside term-time, so keep an eye out on the list and in the emails.
A weekend for 16-35-year-olds that starts with an easy social dance
Friday night, classes (beginners to very advanced) Saturday
morning, optional classes in Highland/Birling/Ladies' Step in the
afternoon, dance in the evening and Sunday morning will have
judging for the Spring Fling new dance competition. All classes
and dances have live music, and it's a very friendly atmosphere.
This is very close, and there should be lots of OUSDS people going.
More details from the Spring Fling website.
The cost is £130 for a non-RSCDS member in a 3-bed room, £145 for a non-member in a 2-bed room; less if you are an RSCDS member or non-resident.
We'll be meeting up to dance in Radcliffe Square at 6am on Friday of 1st week. We're very lucky to have Pipe Major Roger Huth playing for us again this year. We'll be dancing in Radcliffe Square just outside All Souls.
Magdalen Bridge will be open to pedestrians but it does get crowded so it's a good idea to be over the bridge by 5.45am. If you're staying to hear the choir do aim to be on the High St side so that you can come on to us.
We frequently go on to breakfast after, but that finishes early enough that you can still be ready for work at 9.
A crib is available.
This will be a very jolly evening. We'll dance the dances we've been learning in the Tuesday classes this term.
Please bring finger food to share.
Oxford will be entering a team for this - get in touch if you're interested in going! The programme is Drewry dances.
This is an excellent course with first rate teachers and musicians, and jolly good beaches and a sea to paddle in.
Most people go for a week (OUSDS usually aim for 2nd week - 27th July - 3rd Aug), and it's great fun (and improves your
dancing too!). There are classes during the day at every level with wonderful teachers
and musicians, and dancing every night (plus after-party dancing too), with people from
all over the world, in sunny St Andrews. Plus beautiful beaches and amazing ice-cream, if
you need any further incentive!
