I am a graduate of the University of Oxford, having received my doctoral degree in Politics in 2009. My research concerns the national, established and disestablished churches in Great Britain, especially during the period from 1886–1936 and their relationship to the government.  This project is predominantly historical and legal, but I am sympathetic with the rational choice approach to political science and I incorporate rational choice analysis into my work.

I teach at a number of Oxford colleges, including St Anne’s, Pembroke, Corpus Christi and Balliol. I also work for the Department of Politics and International Relations, providing undergraduate lectures in British political history and training to graduate students who want to teach undergraduate tutorials. I am an Academic Editor for the department’s blog: Politics in Spires.

I am an attorney licensed to practice in the State of Colorado and the federal courts in the United States.  I have practiced in the fields of church/state relations and human rights, as well as in more general areas of civil and commercial litigation.

I won the OxTALENT Award 2010 (along with Liz Frazer of New College) from the Oxford University Computing Services for my integration of Oxford’s Virtual Learning Environment into my tutorial teaching. I also won an Oxford University Teaching Award for my use of the system.
