Interruption (1901)

We interrupt the labour of the gods,
we callow, hasty creatures of the moment.
In their palaces at Eleusis and Phthia
Demeter and Thetis start to do good deeds
amidst impenetrable smoke and raging flames. But
Metaneira always bursts in from the royal
chambers, hair dishevelled, in a panic,
and inevitably Peleus takes fright and intervenes.
