A Craftsman of Kraters (1921)

On this krater of pure silver
which for Heraclides' house was made,
where good taste reigns supreme
behold these graceful blooms, and streams, and thyme,
and in the centre's seen a beautiful young man,
erotic, naked; one leg in
the water still. - I begged you, memory,
to be my best accomplice in the recreation of
the way his face had been, this youth I loved.
A formidable task, for something like a
decade and a half had passed by since
the day he fell, a soldier, at the battle of Magnesia.
