Lizzy Apsley Doctoral Student at the Doctoral Training Centre

For my undergrad I studied natural sciences, specialising in Biochemistry. In my third year my research project tested a novel combination of cell surface markers to identify and isolate naive pluripotent iPS cells in reprogramming cultures. My masters research project focused on the nucleosome remodelling and deacetylation complex, NuRD, and its role in the response to ERK signalling in mouse embryonic stem cells.
My scientific interests are in cell and developmental biology – particularly in understanding how cells differentiate and form complex organisms. I became particularly interested in brain development and the potential use of organoid models during an Amgen scholars summer placement in Madeline Lancaster's lab at the LMB, Cambridge.
