HOW IT WORKS
♣ Small cctv cameras constantly monitor the behaviour of broiler chicken flocks using 'optical flow' - change in image brightness in successive cctv frames.
♣ The key to the system is the statistical analysis that delivers its ‘verdict’ every 15 minutes, without any human intervention.
♣ High welfare flocks (those with low mortality, low pododermatitis, low hock burn and good gaits) are distinguishable statistically by being more uniform (lower skew and kurtosis) [ref]
♣ Flocks that will develop lower welfare (e.g. high hockburn) can be identified days or weeks ahead [ref]
