1st week - Friday 23rd January - Dwarven Culture Evening

To prepare you for our banquet later on this term, we provide an introduction to the intricacies of Dwarven culture.

2nd Week - Thursday 29th January - Poetry Evening

"It ain't what I call proper poetry, if you understand me: just a bit of nonsense."


Nonsense or sense, bring your favourite bit of poetry along (Tolkienian or otherwise), and enjoy an evening of delight in the spoken word. (Speaking in rhyme is non-compulsory.)

2nd Week - Friday 30th January - Quiz Preparation

Warming up for the annual battle of wits with our foes who punt from the wrong end, an evening of questions ranging from the trivial to the tricksy.

3rd Week - Friday 6th February - AGM (and Pancakes)

It's time once more to elect a new committee, and to aid us in this most difficult of tasks we will be providing pancakes. Bring along your favourite topping!

4th Week - Friday 13th February - Reduced Tolkien

Following on from the hit success of the society's production of the Reduced Lord of the Rings, we shall attempt to butcher another of Tolkien's works in the name of entertainment.

5th Week - Friday 20th February - Banquet Dance Practice


Christ Church LR2 - 8pm


Nothing so vigorous as the Springle-ring! Try some traditional folk dances, in anticipation of the next day's banquet.

5th Week - Saturday 21st February - Banquet


North Oxford Community Centre - 3pm until late


Witness the glory of Moria, the horror of its fall. Sup on the delights of foods both dwarvish and other. Drink of the mead, dance merrily into the night. (Places must have been booked, sorry.)

6th Week - Friday 27th February - Film Viewing


Christ Church Bayne Room - 8pm prompt


Following on from our showing of Peter Jackson's trilogy, we watch the second installment: The Two Towers.

6th Week - Saturday 28th February - Varsity Quiz

The annual varsity quiz against Minas Tirith, the Cambridge Tolkien Society. They stole victory last year after a long period of our ascendancy, so we go to steal the crown back.

7th Week - Friday 6th March - Dramatic Readings

Appealing to the thespian in each of us, we practice and perform various scenes, in a suitable ir/reverant fashion. Participation is non-compulsory, but encouraged (and fun!).

7th Week - Saturday 7th March - Spring Walk

Join us in a wander around the wilder parts of Oxford to appreciate the daffodils and ducklings. Singing of Tom Lehrer songs is encouraged.
