Brief talks by the present committee members followed by chat and topical party games. Beware the Ring-Bearer Aptitude Test!

1st Week - Saturday 16th October - TOLKIEN'S OXFORD WALK

Meet at Christ Church lodge - 3pm

A guided walk round Oxford, pointing out Tolkien-related and other landmarks, finishing at the Eagle & Child pub, meeting place of the Inklings.

2nd Week - Thursday 21st October - DISCWORLD DEBATE

Christ Church LR2 - 8pm

Is Terry running out of new ideas for Discworld? A debate to which all may contribute, led off by two of our most knowledgeable members.

2nd Week - Friday 22nd October - DRAMATIC READINGS

Christ Church LR2 - 8pm

Our own versions of some favourite Tolkien scenes, rehearsed and read aloud on the night. All are invited to participate!

3rd Week - Friday 29th October - THE TRIAL OF THE RING BEARERS

Christ Church LR2 - 8pm

Can the lawyer who last year persuaded the audience to acquit Sauron convince them to convict Frodo? We will be trying the four main Ring-Bearers, you will be the jury.

4th Week - Day/time to be announced - GANDALF'S FIREWORKS PARTY

Meet at Christ Church lodge - time to be announced

A fireworks party taking place in Middle Earth. Watch out for the Surprise!

5th Week - Friday 12th November - DEBATE: THE THREE P'S

Pratchett, Pullman, or Harry Potter? All three have been acclaimed by their supporters as 'the new Tolkien.' But which is most deserving of the crown, or are they all Pretenders? Come along and make your feelings known!

6th Week - Friday 19th November - SPEAKER MEETING

David Doughan MBE is the living history of the national Tolkien Society. A person of many talents and languages, he has advised Tolkien enthusiasts and experts on projects all around the world. His title is:

'Tolkien And Strong Drink.'

7th Week - Thursday 25th November - POETRY READING

Christ Church LR2 - 8pm

All welcome to participate in a reading of Tolkien's poems.

7th Week - Friday 26th November - THE MATHOM PARTY

Christ Church Bayne Room - 8pm

It's a party with a Tolkienesque twist. Bring along your most unwanted possession. You will be leaving with somebody else's. It can get competitive!

8th Week - Friday 3rd December - VIDEO NIGHT

Christ Church Bayne Room - 8pm

The Return Of The King as you were not expecting to see it, all will be revealed on the night.

We always plan additional meetings as the term progresses, and liaise with other societies; for example this term regarding Howard Shore and Sean Austin coming to address the Oxford Union. Members get weekly notices by email of everything going on.
