** 4th week - Friday 8th November - Speaker Evening **

Christ Church - LR2 - 8pm

"In a hole in the ground: Tolkien and the trenches."

"Tolkien fought in the Battle of the Somme as battalion signals officer for the 11th Lancashire Fusiliers and lost some of his closest friends there. The Great War was crucial in his invention of Middle-Earth. Hie experiences shaped The Lord of the Rings, and particularly its hero Frodo."

There will be dinner and drinks with John beforehand (to be arranged by email); otherwise, meet in Christ Church at 8 as normal.

** 5th week - Thursday 14th November - Geek Quiz **

Christ Church - Lecture Room 2 - 8pm

In the legendary Geek Quiz, members of Oxford's geekiest societies get together in order to battle it out for the crown of "team who won that term". A really fun evening, and who knows, you might even get an answer right occasionally...
